Varies: There are different levels of a report. In my state, if an injury may have been abuse based on exam and explanation, I am required to report it as a suspicion and it is investigated. If I offer a professional opinion that it is abuse, the kid is often admitted to the hospital for an evaluation and CPS petitions the presiding judge for custody.The outcome is based on the completed evaluation.
