Elevated Cortisol: Cushing's disease is a problem where your cortisol is elevated. Cortisol is a stress hormone that can raise your blood sugar and help you with metabolism. With cushings, you can have diabetes, obesity, a poor immune system and decreased bone density, among other symptoms. You doctor will help make the diagnosis with blood and urine tests and then determine why you developed cushings.

Pituitary growth: Cushing's disease is a condition where the pituitary (tumor) is producing too much acth (adrenalcorticotropic hormone). This hormone stimulates your adrenal glands to produce extra cortisol (stress hormone) which in excess can cause a lot of metabolic problems.
