Depends: The best treatment for splenic injury is the one that is based on the individual patient problem. Splenic injuries can range from one that "bruises" the spleen, to one that completely disrupts the spleen from its blood supply. We attempt "non-operative" management for most injuries. For some, splenic artery embolization is used. Operatively, splenic repair can be attempted. Finally, removal.
