No: Hemoplilis influenza type B (HIB) was the most common cause of infant and childhood meningitis prior to the adoption of the improved Hib vaccine in the early 90's. Meningococcal meningitis was and is a sporadic cause of rapidly fatal meningitis in un-immunized patients. The menomune and menactra are two products that help provide protection from some strains of meningococcus.
