A member asked:

What does it mean if there are biliruben by-products in my urine?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Bilirubin: Elevated bilirubin can result from two main sources-- breakdown of hemoglobin (from red cells) and blockage of normal secretion from the liver (obstruction of a bile duct.) Some people also have abnormalities of hemoglobin metabolism leading to elevated levels. Any of these can "spill over" into the urine.
