What does 2 bilirubin in urine mean?

8 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Yes it can be: Bilirubin is a pigment associated with the liver/hepatic system and red blood cells (especially hemolysis or breaking of them since bilirubin is found in them). Bilirubin causes jaundice and dark urine. Tests can be done to distinguish the source (conjugated vs unconjugated). Also need to look at other abnormal tests, history/exam would also be very important. Be sure to follow up with your doctor.

Liver disease: Increased bilirubin in blood or urine suggests either increased release from destruction of red blood cells (hemolysis) or liver disease. More accurate testing (measure in serum) is needed
