It is not specific.: Increased monocytes may be caused by many different disorders. The most common causes are infection and recovery from neutropenia (low neutrophils in the blood). Other causes include collagen vascular diseases, ulcerative colitis, sprue, sarcoidosis and hematologic diseases.
