Anticancerous: Cis platinum developed after work at GM employed soluble platinum in catalytic converters for their cars. It was found in next lab that cultures of bacteria and fungus used to test preservatives on fabrics were dying. Electron microscopy showed platinum entering nucleus to destroy DNA. When tumors were evaluated with platinum, chemical localized on tumor membrane showing presence of DNA in that location. Drug does not enter tumor nucleus but is active in destroying many malignancies.
