Outcomes c an vary: The kneecap or patella is critical to the normal function of the knee throughout the arc of motion (bending and extending). If the fractured patella heals with a normal joint surface, the outcomes can be good to excellent. If there is severe damage to the articular cartilage, then motion may become painful, limited, and cause catching. This can lead to post traumatic arthritis.
