A variety: The surgery is defined by its invasiveness and need for control, usually after eye drops have been ineffective. Laser treatment can increase the fluid outflow. Artificial drainage by a canal creating procedure termed trabeculectomy is next. Synthetic drains can be emplaced of several designs. If all fails the fluid production can be attenuated by freezing or diathermy.

Many/complex: Micro invasive glaucoma surgery (Migs) is gaining great popularity. These procedures reduce many of the risks associated with conventional trabeculectomy & aqueous drainage device surgery. Some include: iStent, Cypass, Hydrus, canaloplasty, Trabectome, ECP, aqeSys, Xen, Solx, stegman canal expander, etc. Many are available & some are still in clinical trials.
