How is the health of people in beijing affected by air pollution? do they have more respiratory diseases there?

Yes: The air in many Chinese cities is unhealthy because the most common heating fuel is coal. The resulting air pollution produces a large number of cases of COPD, Asthma and many other respiratory problems. I am no expert but I have been fortunate to have visited several cities in mainland China and these are my observations.
