Big toe nerve pain: The foot gets innervated by different nerves that originate from the spine. The top of the foot is innervated by L5 and the sides of the foot is innervated by the calcaneal nerves, the peroneal nerves and S1/S2. There is the deep peroneal nerve in the first interspace that can get injured and can cause sharp intermittent pain.
