Either, depending on: your surgeon's preference, after he examines you. I would like to ensure you don't have a simple Dx like a CarpaL Tunnel syndrome, which could also cause neck pain with tingling in hand, or another peripheral neuropathy. I would think the neck surgery is indicated if you have increasing weakness and all other causes of your symptoms have been excluded. Good Luck.

Varies: If you have a herniated disc, but the motion segment involved is otherwise normal, a disc replacement is usually considered a better option because it allows continued motion at that site. If the segment is highly degenerative, then the motion of a disc replacement might cause continued pain and a fusion is probably better. Discuss specifics of your case with a specialist.
