I have taken urine sample of my 1 year old for culturing and gave it to the laboratory 12 hours later..will the delay affects the result?

Yes: The delay will allow for contamination of the specimen. Ideally a urine specimen should be a clean catch mid stream collection, virtually impossible in a one year old so the best option for a good culture is a cath specimen.
