Second degree burn: Although it hurts that is a good sign. It means a second degree burn and tht will heal. First put in cool water and then take Ibuprofen. Next put antibiotic salve on thumb and bandage. Elevate and keep a cool compress on it. Keep covered regularly and this should improve over a week or so. You can also put aloe vera on it too!

Burn treatment: Rinse with cool tap water and wash with mild soap. For pain, you can try acetaminophen every 4 hours and/or ibuprofen every 6 hours. Do NOT use ice on the wound. If still bad tomorrow, consider seeing a doc for some silver sulfadiazine topical cream. May also use aloe vera from a plant or topical over the counter for pain and antibacterial properties. Topical bacitracin may help prevent infection.

Burn: Keep it cool and moist. avoid any pressure or trauma. You can take motrin or advil (ibuprofen) for the pain. Do not manipulate the blister and allow it to resolve spontaneously. A blister is a sterile wound dressing and will allow new skin growth below it before it spontaneously peels off. If it becomes necrotic, the skin may need to be medically debrided. Keep it clean and may apply antibiotic ointment.

Everyone Gets Burned: Ouch! You'll remember this if you ever see someone who's been seriously burned all-over! Don't pop the blister. Ice will help numb it. Ibuprofen (Motrin) plus acetaminophen (Tylenol) and keeping it elevated. The serious pain should be a lot better tomorrow. Keep it covered and protected and....no hitchhiking. For sympathy, put a big bulky dressing on the thumb. Watch for any infection.Give it time
