What are the situations doctors test for herpes at pregnancy? do they just test or do they need to see a breakout?

History or symptoms: If you think you had a lesion that is concerning for herpes, your doctor can check blood tests to see if you ever had exposure (cold sores etc) If you have an active lesion, they can send that for a culture as well.
