Lymphadenitis: Lymph nodes are the body's second line of defense against infection. They swell with inflammation, trying to fend off bacteria and other types of invasion including some types of cancer. If you have been sick recently or if you have some sort of infection near the affected nodes, that's probably the cause and the nodes will return to normal size in a few weeks.
