Gas pains : Babies don't have a lot of, let's say range, of expression. Sometimes they can look like they're rooting around but really just need to let out a good burp. If they get more food, they're over full and will bring it back up. One thing to try may be to try to burp him every few ounces, or after 5-10 minutes on the breast. Different positions work best for different babies.

Reading signals: It is easy to assume a baby is hungry if they are willing to take more.However, babies suck often to self sooth and this can be when they are full. Babies are even born with sucking blisters on their hands showing they did so while getting fed through the placenta. Many babies are just tired and suck to self settle. Their crying is often fatigue and not understanding if they sleep it goes away.
