Need exam/swab: If you go to the doc, s/he can obtain a good ENT exam, including a tonsilar swab for a rapid Strep test. An acute EBV tonsillitis looks very similar with fever, headache, muscle aches, sore throat, lymphadenopathy & white plaques on the tonsils. EBV can even cause right upper belly pain (acute viral hepatitis). Antibiotics will help a strep but not viral infection. Consider sugarless lozenges.
