Ouch!: Painful periods are no fun. Daily exercise all month long has been shown to help. Biirth control pills make your periods lighter, less painful and shorter. A mirena IUD, or Implanon greatly reduce menstrual bleeding and pain. Medications like Ibuprofen, Motrin, Midol and Naprosyn can help you through it. Tylenol (acetaminophen) isn't the best choice. If done with child-bearing, surgical options exist too.

Painful menses: Severe abdominal cramping and occasional diarrhea can accompany menstrual periods. This can be caused by a disease called "endometriosis". Oral birth control can alleviate this kind of pain, and preserve fertility options in the future. See your healthcare provider for advice and treatment.
