I accidentally inhaled cigarette smoke and now i have a cough and very sore throat am i just getting sick or is it serious?

You have a URI: or 'Upper Respiratory Tract Infection' characterized by cough and sore throat. There is a whole 'spectrum' of illness - from mild to moderate to severe. I don't hear a complaint of fever or other worrisome symptoms, so probably this is just mild to moderate. You should probably call your Primary doctor - they can look in your throat and take a culture, particularly if symptoms get worse.
