You have a URI: or 'Upper Respiratory Tract Infection' characterized by cough and sore throat. There is a whole 'spectrum' of illness - from mild to moderate to severe. I don't hear a complaint of fever or other worrisome symptoms, so probably this is just mild to moderate. You should probably call your Primary doctor - they can look in your throat and take a culture, particularly if symptoms get worse.

Nocturnal cough: Cough at night can be from a number of things. If it has only been around for a short time, it is most likely a common cold. You can try simple cough syrup, but some people get relief from tea with a little honey. Feel better!
