Workout guidelines: Limit salt intake, watch your calorie count, make sure your workout is long enough( at least 30 min) to get your heartbeat up to cause some increased cardiac work. If things aren't going your way after some adjustment you may want to either get a personal trainer or seek a sports medicine doc for more help
