A member asked:

If a healthy person takes synthroid, (thyroxine) what happens? good, bad, or neutral?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Weird question: Hi. If I understand, you mean what would happen if a person without hypothyroidism takes Synthroid (thyroxine)? If a non-hypothyroid person took a high enough dose, it would make the person hyperthyroid. A very low dose could be accommodated because the pituitary would adjust TSH secretion to adjust endogenous thyroid function downward to account for the added exogenous thyroid hormone. But why do you ask?
