What are the tests for knife wound?

Where?: Where is the knife wound? Usually a doctor's physical examination is sufficient, examination of nerve feeling and muscle function at the site if involving an extremity. Examination of the depth of the wound depending on location. Sometimes blood tests, and sometimes direct surgical exploration in the operating room is indicated.

More information: There are a large number of tests that might be done, mostly to detect any injuries to underlying organs or blood vessels. Depends on the location and depth of the knife wound. This could be anything from exploring the wound with a probe to see its depth, to an arteriogram (blood flow test for the arteries) to a CT scan. Some knife wounds need immediate surgery.

Depends : Where were you stabbed ? If you are actively dying you go straight to surgery and we open you up and look. If not dying we may do a simple wound exploration and possibly some type of imaging.
