Pain: Sound like some type of irritation associated with your rib connecting to your strnum or a costochondritis. Try a course of NSAId (Ibuprofen).

You may have: Pleurisy which is actually not your bones hurting - but the small space between your lungs and the "pleura" or lining gets inflamed and may hurt when you breathe, Of course you should be evaluated to make sure you have clear lungs and otherwise normal xrays and exam to make that diagnosis. Usually high dose Ibuprofen for a few days as needed will help

How long : Any injuries ? Did you sprain or strain you chest muscles/cartilage ? How long? Any coughing? Is it getting better or worse. ? Many things can cause this. Need more information. Try some aspirin or ibuprofen over the counter. If not improving over the next few days see someone.
