Clinical Diagnosis: There are no laboratory tests for dysthymic disorder. The diagnosis is made on the basis of specific symptoms related to diminished functioning and poor mood over a long time (2 years or more). Symptoms are similar to those for major depression but fewer and possibly less severe.
