Yes: Most HPV infections, including carcinogenic HPV genotypes, typically resolve within 6 to 12 months. In a small number of cases there is persistent infection. You can transmit the infection even if you do not have visible lesions. Thanks for trusting HealthTap!

Define "clear": The primary infectious stage will clear in any person with a competent (normal) immune system. However, HPV is a family of viruses well known for its ability to hibernate in the body indefinitely and re-activate, often with no symptoms. Once you have HPV, you have it for life. It may never re-activate, but you could also pass the germ a decade or more later.
