Yes. Absolutely.: When we have a viral or bacterial infection that irritates the lining of the gut, it results in the loss of the "brush border" lining of the intestinal wall. It contains our digestive enzymes, IgA, protective mucous and finger like projections to aid in absorption of nutrients. Not only that, but the normal symbiotic bacteria that live within us reside there too. After illness it takes to regrow.
