Wonder if: there is some degree of post nasal drip. If it has been going on for six months - would encourage medical evaluation to determine cause and solution.

Need studies: A cough for 6 months needs to be evaluated Please get this done in the next week or two. In the meantime, try drinking more water to help make any secretions looser and easier to "cough up" and expel.

Post nasal drain: Common causes of chronic cough include GERD, cough variant asthma, post nasal drainage, CHF and chronic lung infections. But your symptoms seem to suggest post nasal drip. Full evaluation by your MD will help
