No Zyrtec (cetirizine): This medicine is not appropriate to give an infant for a cough related to a viral infection. Acetaminophen is reasonable for fever, but a visit to the doctor is recommended prior to giving any other medications.

8 month URI: For the fever over 101 degrees, you need to give acetaminopen or ibuprofen (each is 5 ml per 20 pounds). Zyrtec (cetirizine) will dry up his runny nose but may or may not help with the cough. Try some warm tea with a little sugar, humidifier.
