No Standard Dose: There is no fixed standard dose of Valium(Diazepam) for alcohol withdrawl. The dose depends on your symptoms and how long you have been abusing alcohol. One may start 10 mgm every 6 hours and gradually taper&stop Alcoholics are not usually prescribed Valium for long term as there is potential for Addiction with Valium It is only used in acute phase and in hospital or rehab setting to prevent DTs

Alcohol withdrawal: Valium is not usually the drug of choice. I have treated alcoholics and their withdrawal symptoms with Librium and the dose depends on the size of the patient and the amount of alcohol that has been consumed along with the longevity of the addiction

I agree with Librium: Especially when an alcoholic chooses to discharge themselves from a hospital AMA and your're worried about them making it to the next watering hole before having a seizure...Librium will keep them relatively safe for about 50 hrs. Hopefully, they'll come back...unfortunately, most do not.

Not the prefered med: The dosage would be determined by a doctor in a controlled environmebt where you can be monitored, Go not attempt to self medicate.
