Migraine aura?: You could be describing the aura of a migraine attack. It is also possible based upon your description of headaches over just the left side of face that you could be describing symptoms of a cluster though visual aura in those sorts of headaches is rare. You could also be talking about someone who has extreme photophobia for other reasons such as cataract removal which then, can precipitate HA's.
