Normal skin bacteria: Group b strep is a common bacteria which grows on our skin. We screen for gbs in pregnancy around the vaginal and rectal area but it can grow on the skin anywhere. It is not transmitted or spread from person to person as it is a normal bacterial flora.

Penicillin: Penicillin is the drug of choice for grouop b streptococcus infections. For those allergic to penicillins there are other antibiotic choices that are effective. The route of administration and the duration of the treatment would depend on the nature, location, and severity of the infection.
