How long?: It depends on how long you have been sick! If this is 10 days or less it sounds like strep throat or another acute infection. A yellowish or whitish coated tongue can occur with strep. It is crucial that you get seen to rule out strep because untreated streptococcal infections can lead to rheumatic heart disease. So get thee to a doc ASAP! If you have had this a long time ask again w/details

Cold virus: A yellow tongue, accompanied by dizziness, headache, sore throat, stuffy nose and weakness/ fatigue would most likely be due to an upper respiratory viral illness (common cold) or a very mild case of the flu. The yellow color is often a non-specific temporary finding. To learn more about the significance of a yellow tongue SEE: www.mayocl.in/1GT9JO3
