E -cig vs cigarette: E-cig has fewer harmful chemicals than cigarettes - but taking in nicotine is still a health issue.

Better question:: The more pragmatic question is whether you will benefit from ongoing nicotine replacement. About a third of patients who are tobacco dependent will live longer if they are maintained on nicotine replacement. Serum cotinine levels are the most accurate predictor but clinically if one has or had a history of craving for a cigarette within the first 1/2 hour of awakening - consider replacement.

Taper: The idea behind nicotine replacement is that it "might" help you to stop smoking which is a good thing in and of itself. You then have to slowly taper off the nicotine replacement products which is sometimes a slow process. A doctor might be able to help as some prescription drugs like Clonidine have been shown to help a variety of addictive processes. A challenge for sure.

Ecigs not a solution: E-cigarettes do not appear to be effective in helping people quit smoking. In addition, they may have their own problems. Apparently some of the chemicals in them may be as harmful as (if not more so than) the chemicals in regular cigarettes. Craving for nicotine lasts 3-5 mins. Dstract yrself each time (deep breathing, carrot sticks, etc) for the 1st few days of not smoking you will be detoxed.
