A member asked:

Is there evidence that bronchitis can can actually be diagnosed?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dx of exclusion: Bronchitis is a clinical diagnosis, based on excluding more serious infections like pneumonia. With bronchitis people have a cough, often productive and sometimes wheezing due to blocked airways. The lungs must be clear, so no pneumonia. Acute bronchitis occurs in otherwise healthy individuals. Chronic bronchitis occurs in patients with underlying lung disease like COPD.
