Follow up with MD: Hello. Discoloration is more of a sign of how long the mucous has been in your sinus cavities than a sign of infection. However, if you feel less congested, and the mucous is thinning out, then from my experience with patients, it looks like your symptoms are dissipating. But I also look at other signs too, such as whether you have a fever, any visual changes or tenderness in your sinus cavities.
