Too much food!: What is referred to as a "pot" belly is simply abdominal obesity typical in males. While women can have pot bellies, they primarily distribute their weight in the hips, butt and thighs. Reducing your carbohydrate intake and increasing exercise will decrease your body fat and pot belly. Also, your blood pressure will improve and your back pain will decrease or disappear. All worth the effort!

Insulin Resistance: Metabolic Syndrome is a combination of hypertension and insulin resistance, usually accompanied by hyperinsulinemia (excess insulin in the blood). Insulin is the hormone that drives glucose in the blood into the cells where it is stored as fat--usually right around the middle. Metformin, 500 mg 3 times per day is an insulin receptor sensitizer, will normalize your insulin, and help you lose fat.
