Persistence: When nodes in lymph node bearing areas such as neck, axilla and groin are non tender, firm and persist at least at 1 cm. size, exam of neck, and chest well should be performed to rule out existing primary ie. thyroid, breast Ca or skin malignancies. If the nodes progress in size and number with no primary identified one should consider bx for lymphoma.
