Rarely: An antrectomy is a rarely performed operation these days. It used to be a common procedure performed before the age of gastric acid reducing medications but these have revolutionized treatment of peptic ulcer disease. There may be a role in certain cancers of the stomach but that discussion should be had with your surgeon.
