Impingement syndrome: The most likely problem after the age of 40 is impingement syndrome. It causes bursitis in the shoulder which eventually leads to rotato cuff tendinitis causing pain and perceived weakness with attempted elevation of the arm. If it persists you should be checked by a Ortho doc who can prescribe some physical therapy, anti-inflammatories, and a steroid injection. Cervical radiculopathy?
