Lateral meniscus : It really depends on the type of meniscus tear and the symptoms you are experiencing. For a small meniscus tear that does not cause pain, you do not need any treatment. For a large tear that causes pain, catching, locking, or popping, you may need surgery. When you get to surgery, you may have a repair vs removal of the torn part of the meniscus.
