Not your brain: The brain has no pain sensors, so it literally can't be the source of the pain you are feeling. What you are experiencing probably has to do with muscle tension in your scalp, which can be quite painful. May have to do with decreased circulation as your body recruits blood to the muscles needed to climb or run.
