Prematurity: A 28 week premie will have respiratory difficulties and need artificial ventilation for a period of time. They will be unable to effectively take nutrition orally, are prone to intestinal disorders, infections, brain hemorrhages and loss of vision. NICU care of the premie has progressed tremendously, and these babies have fewer complications and usually do surprisingly well.
