It is important to washes all bedding, linens and recently worn clothing in hot water to prevent re-infestation, and household contacts may require treatment as well. Itching and dry skin can last up to two weeks following successful treatment.

Permethrin 5% Cream: Permethrin 5% cream (prescribed by your physician) is applied to all skin surfaces below the neck and left on overnight. Repeat this application one week later. In the meantime, one should decontaminate all linen, bed sheets, etc. By washing in hot water. All close contacts should also be worked up for scabies due to the skin-to-skin transmission of the mite.
