A member asked:

Can you still have cancer after chemotherapy and a mastectomy?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Cancer recurrence: Unfortunately, the answer to the question is "yes", depending on the extent and aggressiveness of your cancer. Breast cancer may recur within the mastectomy wound itself or within another organ (e.g., bone, liver, lung). Chemotherapy and anti-estrogen therapy are given to reduce the risk of cancer recurrence throughout the body, but these treatments are not always completely successful.
