Many causes: There are many causes of peripheral neuropathy. Common causes are elevated blood sugar, alcohol, and vitamin B12 deficiency. A common "cause" is idiopathic neuropathy, meaning the cause cannot be found. Other causes include medicine side effects, certain kinds of infections, cancer, inherited causes, chemical exposure, and changes in blood chemistry.
