Many Causes: Peripheral neuropathy can be a debilitating and frustrating symptom that usually represents an underlying disorder including, but not limited to, diabetes, spinal stenosis, exposure to toxic chemicals, chemotherapy, iron deficiency anema, vitamin B12 deficiency, cancer, lyme disease, hypothyroidism, and neurological disorders (i.e. Ms). Its important to get a thorough work-up to get a diagnosis.

VERY NUMEROUS: Presentation of peripheral neuropathy can be insidious, and diagnosis may be elusive for several yrs. Best approach is to distinguish between large fibre vrs small fibre, axonal vrs schwann cell, as an initial analytic approach, then more specific testing can proceed. There are a number of rare hereditary conditions, and several immune neuropathies. Might get opinion from medical school.
