Macroprolactin?: Hi. There is only one prolactin (PRL). Elevated PRL (from pituitary tumor and/or certain drugs) can cause hypogonadism in either gender, amenorrhea in women, and breast milk production (possible in either gender, but obviously more common in women). Macroprolactin (m-PRL) is an aggregate of PRL, so blood PRL measures high, but m-PRL doesn't cause a problem and doesn't need treatment. That's all!
