Diarrhea in one y.o.: Diarrhea is usually caused by a viral infection of the lining of the intestines. Sometimes it is caused by bacteria or parasites and occasionally by food allergy or drinking too much fruit juice. The most important thing is fluids to make sure your baby is not becoming dehydrated. Yogurt will help to repopulate their gut with good bacteria. If it does not let up soon take him to the doctor. Best.

Appropriate fluids: Please prevent dehydration. Pedialyte or equivalent fluid is a good option. There are no recommended treatments for stopping diarrhea. It is typically self limited. Persistent symptoms should be evaluated. Monitor urine output-wet diapers frequency. reduced output can be a sign of dehydration. A bland diet without dairy helps.

Diarrhea: in children is common and usually self resolving with a few extra dietary supports. STOPPING the diarrhea (the body's way of eliminating the offending infection) with medications can be dangerous in children. Supplement with an electrolyte solution (few ounces) after every loose stool, avoid of sugary foods/drinks like juices, and increase binding foods (bananas, rice, toast) .

Diarrhea: The duration of the diarrhea depends on the cause. Things you can do to try and shorten the course and to ensure recovery: Encourage fluids - water, electrolyte replacement fluid. NO juices/sweetened drinks, hold off on milk for a few days. BRAT diet - basically plain, bland easy to digest food. Applesauce, dry toast, saltine crackers, plain white rice, bananas etc.
